Bio

Hi, I’m Leah Hamdoun, and I’m passionate about empowering young people and making a real impact in Lambeth. As co-chair of the Lambeth Youth Council, I work to amplify youth voices and promote civic engagement. I’m also part of the communications team, ensuring young people stay informed and engaged with our work. Through social media, events, and outreach, I help make our campaigns accessible and impactful. I also have created my own campaign Beyond You, a campaign tackling financial and accessibility barriers to sports. My goal is to create opportunities for young people and ensure our voices shape the future of our community.

My Campaign

My campaign Beyond You is all about breaking down barriers to fitness for young people in Lambeth! From my own research, 89.7% of young people say cost stops them from going to the gym, and 35% of those in deprivation only get 30 minutes of activity a day—that’s shocking. That’s why I created Beyond You, pushing for cheaper gym memberships, more youth-friendly classes, and extended gym hours so that fitness is accessible to everyone.

I launched the campaign at the Lambeth Youth Summit, where I ran an interactive workshop helping young people rethink fitness spaces on a £5,000 budget. Since then, I’ve presented Beyond You at full council, secured support from councillors, and even became a finalist for Young Person of the Year at the Civics Award 2025. The goal? To make sure no young person feels priced out of staying active. Fitness should be for all, not just for those who can afford it!
